As a retail associate that works in shoe department, I have found many children who don't know how to tie their shoes. I'm not talking 3 year olds, but there are many first and second graders who refuse to let their parents purchase "tie-up" shoes for them to wear, and only will only wear Velcro style shoes.
My son is only 3 1/2 but he is learning to tie his shoes. We recently went shoe shopping for school shoes and he told me that he liked the tie up shoe, but also said "Mommy, I cant get those. I don't know how to tie shoes" Trying to teach him the old way of tying shoes (The way I learned using 1 "bunny ear" wrapping the other lace around the 1st ear than putting it through the hole and making 2 ears that way).
Then I found Tie Buddies. The wonderful people at Tie Buddies sent me a set of red and green car Tie buddies for me to review.

Opening the package, you will find that you have 4 little squares - one for each lace. Place each square on the laces and that forms your "bunny ear" for you. Then you make your traditional knot (still having the bunny ears), cross over the bunny ears and tuck one in the hole...and voila you have a tied shoe! (Check here to see the Tie Buddies Learn to Tie instructions).
I set up the tie buddies on my sons Shoes. and tried it for the first time. This defiantly did make it easier to tie the shoes. And After trying it two or three times I decided I was confident enough in my tying skills to be able to show my son. After seeing it once, he tried, and almost got it. I was excited because he seemed really willing to try. Since it is still summer, he has been wearing his sandals, but the tie buddies are on his good shoes for when we go out somewhere nicer.
It is a little tricky for an old schooler to use, but for those newbie tiers, It works great!
Check out Tie Buddies here! I would defiantly suggest these to Any Mom for their children!
What a cute idea...my daughter is 3 and we are about to embark this "mission" cause it feels like a mission...lol.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the review!

Great idea! I will have to check these out for my nearly 4 year old sons. Thanks for the review!
ReplyDeleteThat is really a great idea. My son is 6 and has so much trouble still tying his shoes. Maybe I should try this.
ReplyDeleteMy kids don't know how to tie their shoes yet and my oldest is 10! I can't imagine a child 3 or 4 years old doing it, but I can't even remember how old I was when I learned. These look so handy!
ReplyDeleteInteresting concept... I need to look into this for my daughter as she is also 3 1/2 and I think she could catch on pretty quickly. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThose are a GREAT idea! My son had the worst time trying to learn how to tie his shoes..these would have come in handy!
ReplyDeletemy oldest starts kindergarten this year, he's 4 and I know we are going to have to start this but, I really didn't even know where to start. great product

ReplyDeleteThis looks fantastic! I also learned by the bunny ear technique but this looks like a much better method.
ReplyDeleteMy oldest is 11 and can't tie shoes because so many have the velcro straps (flip flops are his preferred shoes though). Sounds like a really great product!
